People Power Party: 'Democratic Party's calls to reform filibuster and fast-track are a declaration of a "rubber-stamp National Assembly"' 04.07.2026

The People Power Party (PPP) strongly criticized Han Byung-do, acting leader and floor leader of the Democratic Party of Korea (DPK), for mentioning improvements to the filibuster and fast-track systems, calling it a "blatant declaration to degrade the National Assembly from a venue of dialogue and compromise into a 'rubber-stamp' body." PPP Chief Spokesperson Park Sung-hoon claimed that the DPK is attempting to turn the National Assembly into a "legislative factory" and a "bulletproof factory," while restricting the voices of minority parties to wage a "legislative speed war." Furthermore, the PPP criticized the push for legislation, such as the "Special Prosecutor Act to withdraw charges against Lee Jae-myung" and the amendment to the Criminal Procedure Act to abolish the prosecution's supplementary investigation powers, as political maneuvering intended to protect the political interests of the President and the DPK. Previously, Han, during a workshop for DPK lawmakers for the second half of the 22nd National Assembly, stated that he would improve the "meaningless filibuster" and the "useless fast-track system" to ensure that legislative activities proceed without interruption.
