The fungicide fluazinam, used in Europe to prevent late blight in potato and onion crops, is under new suspicion for having harmful effects on the brain. The substance was approved for use in the European Union in 2008, but researchers from Stockholm University have analyzed data from a 2005 study on rats. They claim that the results presented by the manufacturer to the EU are inaccurate and that the brains of rats exposed to fluazinam had lower weight and reduced length.
