Petrol prices fall as diesel rises despite subsidy 03.06.2026

Tanzania's Energy and Water Utilities Regulatory Authority (Ewura) announced new fuel prices effective June 3, 2026, showing a decrease in petrol costs but an increase for diesel users. Petrol will now retail at Sh4,086 per litre in Dar es Salaam, down Sh29 from May's price of Sh4,115. Conversely, diesel prices rose by Sh85 to Sh4,333 per litre, despite a government subsidy of approximately Sh534.91 per litre. Kerosene prices also saw a slight increase to Sh4,685 per litre. Ewura Acting Director General Gerald Maganga attributed these fluctuations to the ongoing Middle East conflict, which began on February 28, 2026, impacting global supply and prices for imported petroleum products. The diesel subsidy is specifically aimed at supporting critical economic sectors like industry, freight, and public transport.
