President Masoud Pezeshkian and Iraqi Prime Minister Ali al-Zaidi attended an official reception at Najaf International Airport to receive the body of the martyred Leader of the Islamic Revolution, Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei. The coffin, accompanied by four family members, landed in Najaf on Tuesday night following a joint US-Israeli attack on his Tehran residence on February 28. Funeral processions are scheduled for Wednesday in Najaf and Karbala, with millions of Iraqis expected to attend the massive event. To facilitate organization, Prime Minister al-Zaidi declared Wednesday a public holiday in Iraq. President Pezeshkian arrived to attend the rites and conduct high-level talks with Iraqi officials. Following the ceremonies in Iraq, the body is scheduled to be laid to rest on Thursday at the holy shrine of Imam Reza in Mashhad, Iran.
