Pflegeübersicht: München und Frankfurt am schlechtesten – in diesen Großstädten gibt es die wenigsten Plätze 24.02.2026

A current investigation by the Pflegia care portal, exclusively provided to Frankfurter Rundschau by Ippen.Media, reveals significant regional disparities in nursing home availability across Germany's 30 most populous cities as of February 24, 2026. Analyzing 1,737 entries from pflegelotse.de, the study found 167,436 stationary care places in 1,736 facilities. While Berlin leads in absolute numbers with 30,213 places, Chemnitz boasts the highest density at 14.93 places per 1,000 inhabitants. Conversely, Munich has the lowest density with only 5.07 places per 1,000 inhabitants, closely followed by Frankfurt at 6.17. Pflegia CEO Felix Westphal highlighted that even economically strong metropolises face structural challenges in expanding care services, compounded by a critical shortage of skilled workers, which can prevent beds from being occupied due to staffing requirements.
