PH files diplomatic protest vs China over floating structure in Bajo de Masinloc 10.06.2026

The Philippines has formally protested China's deployment of a movable floating platform in Bajo de Masinloc, located in the West Philippine Sea. The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) confirmed taking "appropriate diplomatic action," including demarches and a formal protest, though details remain confidential. The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) first detected the structure, which measures approximately 30 square meters with dimensions of five by six to seven meters, via satellite imagery in May. Six Chinese personnel were observed on the platform on May 30, the same day aerial harassment incidents involving Chinese military aircraft were reported. The platform was seen moving deeper into Bajo de Masinloc on May 31, reportedly with assistance from Chinese vessels and personnel.
