Defense expert Klemen Grošelj highlighted a critical situation at the defense summit in Ankara regarding Slovenia's current standing in relation to the North Atlantic Alliance (NATO). In his assessment, the state has never been in such a sensitive position as it is now, which is not only a consequence of the decisions of the previous government led by Robert Golob, but also a broader socio-political attitude toward defense spending. Grošelj believes that Slovenia has become a prisoner of domestic political calculations, which have left it unprepared for the sudden change in the security environment. As a result, Slovenia is part of a group of countries that failed to reach the target of spending two percent of gross domestic product on defense last year. Despite these difficult circumstances and the failure to meet obligations to the alliance, Grošelj believes that the state can successfully emerge from this difficult position.
