Piercingshop Coevorden sluit direct na oorinfecties bij meer dan 150 klanten 23.02.2026

Piercingshop Coevorden has immediately ceased operations following reports of severe ear infections affecting over 150 customers. The infections are linked to two aftercare sprays, one containing Tea Tree Oil, which were found to be contaminated with the bacteria *pseudomonas aeruginosa*. This bacteria causes difficult-to-treat wound infections, leading to symptoms such as redness, swelling, and pus discharge. The Dutch Food and Consumer Product Safety Authority (NVWA) and the GGD Drenthe have issued warnings, and a recall is in effect for the affected sprays, which were sold in-store, via the company's webshop, and on platforms like bol.com. The shop owner, Leon Bothof, expressed deep distress over the situation and stated that all contaminated sprays have been removed and will no longer be sold.
