Police Annual Report: National Assembly Committee Calls for Police Staffing Reinforcement and Re-installation of Border Fence 07.07.2026

The National Assembly's Committee on Internal Affairs adopted 12 resolutions, which include key calls for police reinforcement and improved security. The Committee called for the establishment and upgrading of technical means for protecting the state border, such as video surveillance systems, drones, and sensors, to prevent illegal crossings. Police Director General Mitja Jager emphasized the burden caused by migrations in southeastern Slovenia and highlighted that 92 people died on the roads last year. Staffing issues were a key concern, as only 7,923 positions were filled on the final day, which is fewer than the planned 8,254. State Secretary Franc Kangler announced an increase in enrollments at the police school in Tacen and the purchase of new vessels for the maritime police in September. Meanwhile, the opposition expressed concerns regarding political influence on the police and emphasized the need to prevent economic corruption.
