Dutch authorities have apprehended 34 individuals after a violent drug-related shootout in the small eastern village of Overasselt, near the German border. Regional police chief Jolanda Aalbers reported that a large group of masked men opened fire at 4:00 AM local time when police arrived to investigate suspicious activity at a house. The exchange left a 51-year-old security guard dead and two police officers with non-life-threatening injuries. Aalbers described the scene as "incredibly traumatic," noting that officers had to rescue their colleagues under heavy fire. Several weapons, data storage devices, and vehicles were seized during the operation.
