McKee was apprehended at his apartment on Chicago's Near North Side, where police maintained a presence for hours following his arrest. Neighbors in McKee's Chicago building expressed shock, with one resident stating she had interacted with him and noticed nothing unusual. Authorities believe the deaths were not a murder-suicide, and McKee has waived extradition from Illinois to Ohio, where he faces two counts of premeditated aggravated murder.
