Puad Zarkashi 3R comments: Cops open probe as 153 reports lodged 25.06.2026

Johor police chief Datuk Ad Rahaman Arsad confirmed that police have launched an investigation into statements made by Datuk Dr Mohd Puad Zarkashi on social media. The probe was triggered after 153 police reports were filed across Malaysia on the same day, with two reports originating from Johor. One report was lodged by a caretaker executive councillor at 10.53am, and another by the caretaker menteri besar's political secretary at 12.13pm. The investigation is being conducted under Section 4(1) of the Sedition Act 1948, Section 505(b) of the Penal Code for statements conducive to public mischief, Section 500 of the Penal Code for defamation, and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 for improper use of network facilities. Under the Sedition Act, a first conviction carries a fine of up to RM5,000 or imprisonment of up to three years, or both. Offences under Section 505(b) and Section 500 carry penalties of up to two years' jail, a fine, or both. Section 233 provides for a fine of up to RM50,000, jail of up to one year, or both. Rahaman did not confirm whether Puad's statement had been recorded as of press time. He urged the public to respect the ongoing investigation and avoid speculation that could cause public alarm. He emphasized that stern action would be taken against anyone misusing network facilities for unlawful purposes, and called for public cooperation to maintain a safe digital space and foster mature, respectful communication for social harmony and national stability.
