Police raids across 90 countries seize fake and illegal medicines worth €14m 07.05.2026

An international police operation, dubbed "Pangea XVIII" and conducted in March across 90 countries, has resulted in the arrest of nearly 270 individuals suspected of drug trafficking and the dismantling of 66 criminal groups. Interpol announced on Thursday that the operation uncovered and seized over six million illicit medicines, valued at more than €14 million. The confiscated items included counterfeit or unlicensed drugs for erectile dysfunction, sedatives, painkillers, antibiotics, and smoking-cessation products, highlighting the significant expansion of illegal pharmaceutical markets, particularly online. Interpol also expressed concern over a sharp rise in seized anti-parasitic medicines, often marketed as dietary supplements or alternative cancer therapies, and a continued demand for performance-enhancing drugs.
