Police union calls for regular psychological reevaluation of officers 03.07.2026

Nikos Loizides, president of the police union Isotita, proposed on Friday that periodic psychological evaluations should accompany the renewal of service weapon certifications for police officers. He noted that psychological tests are currently only part of the recruitment process, which includes written exams, athletic tests, and drug tests, and are not conducted later in an officer's career. His remarks come three days after a 46-year-old woman was shot multiple times by her husband, a police officer, with his service weapon. The woman remains in the hospital in critical but stable condition, as reported by the Cyprus Mail on Friday.
