Politburo charts HCM City’s path to global city status by 2075 28.05.2026

The Politburo of the Communist Party of Việt Nam has outlined a comprehensive strategy for Ho Chi Minh City to achieve global city status by 2075. This ambitious vision includes significant economic growth targets, with an annual Gross Regional Domestic Product (GRDP) growth of at least 10 per cent from 2026-2045, and a per capita GRDP target exceeding $100,000 by 2075. The plan emphasizes transformation into a smart, modern, and sustainable urban center, positioning it as a leading hub for economic, cultural, scientific, and technological development in Southeast Asia by 2030 and a major Asian hub by 2045. Key initiatives involve substantial infrastructure investment, including urban railway expansion and port development, alongside a focus on digital economy growth, net-zero emissions by 2045, and resolving chronic urban issues. Special legal mechanisms and policies will be introduced to attract investment and technology transfer, fostering innovation in strategic sectors and strengthening the city's marine economic capabilities.
