Pope to hold mass at Barcelona's Sagrada Familia during Spain visit 06.05.2026

Pope Leo XIV will celebrate mass at Barcelona's Sagrada Familia Basilica on June 10, 2026, during his six-day visit to Spain from June 6-12, marking the 100th anniversary of architect Antoni Gaudí's death and inaugurating the basilica's newest tower. The itinerary includes meetings with King Felipe VI in Madrid on June 6, a mass in the capital on June 7, discussions with Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez on June 8, and a gathering at Real Madrid's stadium. He will then travel to the Canary Islands' Tenerife and Gran Canaria to address migration, a key issue for the pope who leads 1.4 billion Catholics. The trip, his third foreign visit in 2026, follows journeys to Monaco and Africa, and occurs amid Spain's secularization and after a church-state agreement on clergy abuse compensation. Over 13,000 police will provide security.
