Le porte-avions USS Gerald Ford, fleuron de la force navale américaine, affaibli par un problème… de toilettesà 05h23 24.02.2026

The USS Gerald R. Ford, a $13 billion nuclear-powered aircraft carrier and a cornerstone of U.S. naval power, is experiencing significant technical difficulties with its vacuum-assisted toilet system, known as VCHT. Since June 2023, the ship has faced daily maintenance calls for repairs and blockages, with one incident in March 2025 reporting 205 failures in just four days. This issue, exacerbated by narrow pipes prone to clogging and costly acid cleaning required in port, impacts the daily lives of its approximately 4,600 crew members, particularly during extended deployments, such as its current redirection to the Middle East in response to tensions with Iran. Despite Navy assurances of no operational impact, internal communications reveal strained technician workloads and crew fatigue.
