A report by UK sociologists, drawing on feedback from Connexion readers and research led by Prof Michaela Benson of Lancaster University, highlights ongoing challenges for Britons in France five years after Brexit regarding Withdrawal Agreement (WA) rights. While most Britons have secured long-term rights, daily life issues persist. Notably, residents in France reported fewer issues with long waiting times for residency cards (26%) compared to other EU countries like Portugal (41%) and Spain (33%). However, common problems include discrepancies between official requirements and practical demands, and the incorrect issuance of five-year residency cards instead of ten-year ones. In France, specific issues involve not usually issuing documents to minors and refusal to grant multiple status residency cards. Additionally, UK residents studying in France face significantly higher university fees, with Strasbourg University threatening to de-register around 40 students for non-payment of these non-EU rates, which are 16 times higher than EU rates.
