The potentially deadly bluetongue virus (BTV3) has been recorded in livestock in Scotland for the first time, with a single case detected on a farm near Creetown in Dumfries and Galloway. The Scottish government confirmed the animal was euthanized on welfare grounds, and restrictions have been placed on the farm. This case is part of 289 BTV3 cases in the UK during the 2026/27 season, with most occurring in southwest England.
