2026 could become one of the strongest years for purchasing power in the Eurozone for Swiss consumers in five years, according to an analysis by payment service provider Wise. The Swiss franc has appreciated by around 16 percent against the euro since 2021, further intensifying price differences. According to the analysis, groceries in Germany are on average around 40 percent cheaper than in Switzerland, with individual products such as butter (250 g) being approximately 63 percent cheaper in Germany. Significant savings can also be achieved in France and Italy, for example with eggs (63 percent cheaper in France) or apples (62 percent cheaper in Italy).
