PRIME BAT Kenya tobacco farmers’ earnings up to Sh1.4bn 07.05.2026

BAT Kenya has reported a significant increase in earnings for tobacco farmers contracted by the company, with payments rising 27 percent to Sh1.4 billion in the year ending December 2025, up from Sh1.1 billion in 2024. This growth is attributed to BAT Kenya recruiting an additional 570 farmers, bringing the total to 2,440, primarily in the Bungoma, Busia, Migori, and Meru counties. The company, which relies heavily on cigarette sales generating Sh22.3 billion, is also diversifying with nicotine pouches, which yielded Sh154 million in 2025 after a previous suspension due to regulatory uncertainty. BAT Kenya supports its farmers through loans, technical expertise, and encouragement to diversify crops for economic resilience and food security, while also reporting a net income of Sh5.25 billion for 2025.
