PRIME Bolt dispels claims of Kenya exit amid fight with riders 02.06.2026

Bolt has vehemently denied circulating claims of an impending exit from the Kenyan market, scheduled for June 8, asserting that a letter suggesting closure is fraudulent. The ride-hailing company stated it remains fully operational and committed to its driver partners and customers in Kenya. This denial comes amidst escalating tensions with motorcycle riders, known as boda bodas, who recently protested in Nairobi demanding higher fares and the harmonization of pricing between petrol-powered and electric motorbikes. Bolt had previously lowered the prices for electric bike rides to incentivize their use, arguing for their higher potential driver profitability due to lower operational costs, a move that riders claim has significantly reduced their earnings. Discontent also exists among petrol bike operators who were excluded from a recent six percent fare increase on car rides, despite rising fuel prices.
