PRIME Taxpayers’ Sh448m annual burden in running Uhuru, Awori, Kalonzo offices 07.05.2026

Taxpayers are facing an annual burden of Sh448.55 million to maintain the offices and provide benefits for former President Uhuru Kenyatta, former Vice Presidents Moody Awori, and Kalonzo Musyoka. This significant cost includes Sh109.36 million for office staff such as drivers, cooks, and personal assistants, and Sh86.4 million in monthly pensions for the three officials. Mr. Kenyatta accounts for the largest portion of the budget at Sh259.99 million, which covers Sh87.37 million for support staff and Sh57.2 million for travel. Mr. Awori and Mr. Musyoka are allocated Sh49.06 million and Sh47.81 million respectively, with Sh11.15 million and Sh10.84 million dedicated to their aides. These retired leaders receive lifelong pensions, fuel allowances, fully furnished offices, and multiple vehicles, highlighting the substantial cost of post-retirement benefits for top state officers.
