Procès Paty : Après un témoignage controversé, la cour veut « réentendre » le ministre Laurent Nuñez 23.02.2026

The Paris Court of Assizes has ordered a new written testimony from Interior Minister Laurent Nuñez in the retrial of Samuel Paty's assassination, following a controversial email sent directly to the presiding judge. Nuñez, previously a national intelligence coordinator, had initially stated in writing that publicly naming a person accused of offending Islam would not objectively expose them to grave danger. This testimony was welcomed by the defense of Abdelhakim Sefrioui, an Islamist activist accused of inciting hatred before the teacher's murder on October 16, 2020. However, Nuñez's entourage later clarified that he did not dispute the causal link between Paty's public identification and the terrorist's choice of target. The Advocate General criticized Nuñez's initial response as "the response of a politician" seeking a correction, while the defense condemned the minister's direct communication as an "attack on the separation of powers."
