Prosecutor requests pre-trial detention for former judge Verónica Sabaj: these are the bribery evidence with Hermosilla 08.06.2026

The Valparaíso Regional Prosecutor's Office has requested pre-trial detention for Verónica Sabaj, a former minister removed from the Santiago Court of Appeals, accusing her of bribery, judicial prevarication, and disclosure of secrets in an investigation linking her to lawyer Luis Hermosilla. The prosecution argues that Sabaj asked Hermosilla, then legal advisor to the Ministry of the Interior, for support for her appointment to the Court of Appeals in March 2020, promising future favors. It is alleged that Hermosilla made representations to figures in Sebastián Piñera's government to favor Sabaj and, subsequently, other appointments. The main evidence presented includes alleged interventions by Sabaj in the Dominga case, advising Hermosilla on legal strategy and reviewing documents, as well as advice on appeals in favor of the former PDI director, Héctor Espinosa, and interventions in recusals against judge Daniel Urrutia, including anticipating his vote. Furthermore, she is accused of revealing confidential information from the Court of Appeals' plenary sessions before their official notification.
