Donald Trump a nommé Bill Pulte, un de ses proches donateurs sans expérience dans le domaine de la sécurité nationale, à la tête des services de renseignement des États-Unis, succédant à Tulsi Gabbard dont la démission sera effective le 30 juin 2026. Pulte, âgé de 38 ans et également directeur de la FHFA, est accusé par les démocrates, dont les sénatrices Elizabeth Warren et Mark Warner, d'avoir utilisé sa position pour des représailles politiques contre des adversaires de Trump, tels que la procureure générale de New York Letitia James et le sénateur Adam Schiff, ainsi que la gouverneure de la Fed Lisa Cook. Trump a justifié cette nomination en arguant que Pulte possédait une « profonde expérience dans la gestion de sujets sensibles aux États-Unis ». Cette désignation soulève des craintes quant à une intensification des poursuites politiques sous couvert de sécurité nationale.
