Ancien policier, « violent de nature »… Qui était « El Mencho », le baron de la drogue mexicain tué par l’armée ?à 11h43 23.02.2026

Nemesio Oseguera Cervantes, known as "El Mencho," the 59-year-old leader of the powerful and violent Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG), was killed by the Mexican army on Sunday. Described as inherently violent, El Mencho frequently targeted law enforcement and was one of Mexico's most wanted fugitives, with the U.S. Department of State offering a $15 million bounty for his capture. He founded the CJNG in 2009, and under his leadership, it became one of the most violent transnational criminal organizations, expanding its operations globally and diversifying into activities beyond drug trafficking, such as hydrocarbon theft and extortion. His death has triggered significant violence across at least eight Mexican states, prompting France to advise its citizens to exercise extreme caution.
