Ramaphosa hits back at critics, calls Phala Phala attacks ‘electoral posturing' 03.06.2026

President Cyril Ramaphosa has dismissed opposition criticism regarding the Phala Phala scandal as mere "political theatre or electoral posturing," asserting his commitment to upholding the integrity of his office. Speaking during a parliamentary debate on the Presidency's budget vote, Ramaphosa acknowledged the nation's shared challenges but emphasized that his administration remains focused on economic growth, job creation, and transforming the country, rather than being sidetracked by narrow agendas. He reiterated his respect for constitutional processes, including the Section 89 impeachment inquiry into the 2020 theft of $580,000 from his Phala Phala farm, stating his confidence in the democratic institutions to perform their work without interference. Ramaphosa is currently challenging the independent panel's report that found prima facie evidence of misconduct.
