Île-de-France. Les agents de la RATP et SNCF bientôt autorisés à porter des pistolets à impulsions électriques 19.02.2026

Starting Thursday, February 19, 2026, security agents for RATP and SNCF in Île-de-France will be experimentally authorized to carry electroshock weapons, commonly known as Tasers. Minister of Transport Philippe Tabarot announced this measure, intended to enhance the control of violent situations within public transport networks. This authorization, which will initially apply to 10% of railway police agents, approximately 300 to 400 individuals, will be for an experimental period of three years. The decree, published in the Journal Officiel, stipulates that individual authorization will be granted by the departmental prefect after mandatory training, with continued authorization dependent on ongoing training. This initiative aims to reduce the need for firearms and minimize the risk of harm to individuals and agents, despite a reported 2% decrease in crime on public transport since 2016.
