Record Number of Applicants to Military Education: Dagbladet Tests the Mud Course 03.07.2026

The Norwegian Armed Forces' Recruitment and Selection (FOS) at Sessvollmoen camp has attracted a record number of applicants this year, with over 4,000 in total. Of these, around 1,000 candidates will be tested through physical and theoretical exams, interviews, medical examinations, and field exercises. Dagbladet reporter Danny Son Ngoc To got to try his hand at the notorious mud course "Styggen," an obstacle course with several demanding physical challenges. The course includes swimming under planks in a river, balancing on planks while officers shout contradictory orders, and crawling through narrow, dark plastic pipes. The reporter described the experience as "far longer than I thought" and confirmed that the water was cold and exhausting, but provided a strong sense of achievement.
