The referendum, originally initiated by the non-parliamentary Democrats party led by Jaroslav Naď, will take place on July 4, 2026. Although it was originally intended to be a vote for early elections, President Peter Pellegrini did not permit this question. Instead, citizens will decide on the abolition of the so-called lifelong pension for four-time Prime Minister Robert Fico and the restoration of the Special Prosecution Office and the National Crime Agency (NAKA).
