Relief for Moni sewage plant next month as water board propels Vati upgrading 23.08.2026

The Water Development Department (WDD) is working to alleviate pressure on the Moni sewage treatment plant by accelerating the upgrade of the Vati facility. Deputy first officer Michalis Michail confirmed that a meeting with the Vati contractor is scheduled for next week to discuss diverting some cesspit waste from Moni as early as September. The Vati plant, which has a maximum capacity of 800 cubic metres per day, is currently operating at only 300 cubic metres due to upgrade works, with 150 cubic metres being treated on-site and the remainder sent to Moni.
