Rente mit 70: Expertenkommission berät heute über brisanten Plan – „Geht völlig an der Lebensrealität vorbei“ 23.02.2026

Germany's pension system is facing reform discussions due to demographic shifts, with a key proposal being to raise the retirement age to 70. The 13-member expert commission, led by Social Minister Bärbel Bas, is tasked with developing long-term solutions by the end of June. One idea, proposed by Martin Werding, suggests gradually linking the retirement age to life expectancy, increasing it by half a year every ten years starting in 2031, which would mean a retirement age of 70 only by 2091. This proposal aims to improve the pension level and lower contribution rates. However, the idea faces significant opposition, with SPD politician Annika Klose calling it a "red line" and the Left party criticizing it as out of touch with workers' realities, suggesting instead that employers contribute a higher percentage to the pension fund.
