Reports of signs of violence on 14-year-old Stylianos before his suicide 08.06.2026

Criminal investigator Andreas Andreou testified at the Nicosia District Court that 14-year-old Stylianos, who committed suicide in September 2019, should have been placed under the care of the Social Welfare Services (SWS). The investigator emphasized that despite reports of physical signs on the child resulting from belt beatings and verbal abuse from his father, there was no medical testimony. He pointed out that the SWS's actions were insufficient, with some incidents not being reported to the Police, and efforts to communicate with the father were unsuccessful. The situation in the family remained problematic, while the child's removal from the home, despite discussions, never occurred.
