Residents complain about noisy birds, but experts say humans are to blame 07.07.2026

Kaunas residents complain about noise and car fouling problems caused by birds such as starlings, crows, and pigeons. Ornithologists claim that birds migrate to cities and apartment rooftops due to human activity: they are being displaced from their natural habitats, for example, due to tourist or fisherman activity on river islands. Experts emphasize that the main problem is irresponsible behavior by people who feed wild birds or leave waste, thereby attracting animals to residential areas. Kaunas Municipality informs that feeding wild birds is a prohibited activity, punishable by a fine ranging from 20 to 140 euros. To manage the situation, it is recommended to manage waste properly, keep containers closed, and avoid feeding birds, as special deterrents, such as ultrasound, often fail due to the birds' intelligence.
