‘Resign!’ Senate minority bloc tells Cayetano 02.06.2026

The "Solid Bloc 11" (SB-11) minority bloc in the Philippine Senate is demanding the resignation of Senate President Alan Peter Cayetano following his decision to boycott plenary sessions, which has led to a failure to convene for the second consecutive day. The minority senators accuse Cayetano of dereliction of duty and violating Senate rules, arguing that the institution cannot cease functioning due to the presiding officer's absence. This stalemate occurs amid an 11-11 leadership deadlock in the Senate, attributed to the recent apprehension of Senator Jinggoy Estrada and the ongoing evasion of Senator Ronald 'Bato' Dela Rosa. Cayetano, however, claims the boycott is a protest against an alleged plot for a "puppet Senate" by opposition lawmakers and a retaliation for their walkout on a previous vote regarding online legislative participation. The minority bloc denies these accusations, asserting that the boycott is solely to protect Cayetano's position and that important legislative measures are being left unaddressed.
