The South of France is experiencing a particularly critical start to the summer on the fire front. While more than 3,000 people had to be urgently evacuated in the departments of Aude, Hérault, and Pyrénées-Orientales, and nearly 2,000 firefighters remain mobilized, a sense of anger and weariness is spreading among the emergency services. These professionals point to a primary cause: human activity, and more specifically, the throwing of cigarette butts from car windows along the roadside.
