A new "Tante Emma" style convenience store named "Tante Zukunft" is set to open in Jena, Germany, on February 27th, operating entirely without human staff. Three Thuringian entrepreneurs have invested €120,000 in a high-bay robot system that will collect approximately 180 different products from a small warehouse, dispensing them to customers through a hatch. The store will be accessible 24/7, aiming to provide essential goods like sweets, frozen items, drinks, and daily necessities, with plans to expand the product range to 250-300 items. Customers can order via in-store terminals, a dedicated website, or a smartphone app, with all payments being digital. The founders are also considering customer suggestions for new products, including regional items.
