Russia continues to violate Kyiv-proposed ceasefire, Zelenskiy says 07.05.2026

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy stated on Thursday, May 7, that Russia was continuing to disregard a ceasefire proposed by Kyiv, which was intended to begin on May 6. This assertion came as Zelenskiy also indicated that Ukraine would persist with its long-range strikes if Russia maintained its assaults. The proposed ceasefire by Ukraine was a response to a similar proposal by Russian President Vladimir Putin to mark World War Two victory commemorations from May 8 to 9, though Moscow had not confirmed adherence to Kyiv's plan. Zelenskiy reported ongoing Russian attacks, including drone, missile, and shelling assaults along the front lines. Concurrently, Ukraine's air force reported downing 92 out of 102 drones since Wednesday evening, while Russia claimed its air defenses destroyed 32 drones targeting Moscow. Ukraine has intensified its strikes on Russian military-industrial and energy sites, including a Lukoil refinery in Perm, with Zelenskiy noting recent Ukrainian drone hits in Chelyabinsk and Yekaterinburg, approximately 2,000 km away.
