Russia sharply reduced purchases of Turkish tobacco in May 05.07.2026

According to data from the Turkish statistical service, Russia showed a sharp decline in the volume of Turkish tobacco purchases in May of this year. The import value amounted to just $80,700 (over 6.2 million rubles), which, compared to last year's figure of $3.3 million, represents a drop of more than 40 times. This purchase volume is the lowest since March 2020. While Russia reduced its market presence, the largest buyers of Turkish tobacco became Iraq, the UAE, and Ivory Coast, with Russia's share falling to less than 1%. Meanwhile, a different dynamic is observed in other sectors: during the first three months of 2026, Russian agro-industrial exports to Turkey grew by 54%, reaching the $1.1 billion mark. Thus, the structure of trade relations between the countries demonstrates significant changes across various commodity categories.
