Jean-Michel Perret, the mayor of Saint-Hilaire-de-Brethmas, has expressed frustration over the financial impact of residents failing to complete their census forms, estimating the commune has lost nearly €40,000. Initially, 173 households were unresponsive, leading to an estimated loss of over €130,000. Following an appeal for civic duty and legal compliance, the response rate improved, with only about fifty households remaining non-compliant, representing approximately 100 individuals based on an average of 2.15 inhabitants per dwelling. This reduced non-compliance, while still a financial blow, is considered a "lesser evil" by the mayor, who highlighted the importance of accurate census data for state funding, understanding population needs, and balancing the municipal budget.
