In 2025, the Hérault department intensified its fight against drug trafficking, leading to record seizures of drugs, tobacco, and trafficker assets. Prefect Chantal Mauchet announced a significant increase in drug seizures, reaching 7.6 tonnes, a 90% rise from the previous year, including 6.8 tonnes of cannabis and over 620 kg of cocaine. Tobacco seizures also surged by 93% to 10.4 tonnes. The crackdown extended to consumers, with a 27% increase in fines and license suspensions for drug use. Law enforcement conducted over 1,000 arrests of traffickers and transporters, resulting in a 9% rise in charges for trafficking offenses. Financial pressure on criminals was also amplified, with a 135% increase in confiscated assets, totaling nearly €23.5 million, including the first-ever seizure of cryptocurrencies. The number of identified drug dealing locations decreased from 48 in 2024 to 29 in 2025.
