Sajith wants Treasury report on $ 2.5 m cyber fraud tabled in Parliament 10.06.2026

Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa has demanded that the Sri Lankan government present the Treasury's report on a $2.5 million cyber fraud related to external debt payments to Parliament. Premadasa stated this is crucial for transparency and accountability concerning the incident. He also voiced concerns about conflicting economic messages from the government and the Central Bank of Sri Lanka, arguing that these inconsistencies sow uncertainty about the nation's policy direction. Premadasa urged the government to release a clear framework for fiscal and monetary policies, detailing instruments, targets, and responsible institutions. He further requested information on how international agreements with entities like the IMF influence policy and questioned the government's claim that Rs. 17,000 is adequate for monthly living expenses, especially given current economic pressures on various societal segments.
