This Sunday, July 5, the sale and activation of Pastef party membership cards were interrupted by law enforcement on Mame Cheikh Ibra Fall Boulevard, in the Fann-Point E-Amitié section. The police justified their intervention by citing a "lack of prior authorization." The local card distribution commission (CLPC) of this section protested vehemently, denouncing it as an "attempt at intimidation and an obstruction of legitimate political expression." Pastef officials are contesting this authorization requirement, which they consider a violation of the democratic freedoms guaranteed by the Senegalese Constitution. Despite this incident, local officials assert that their mobilization and membership campaign will continue.
