The Coordination rurale (CR) has announced its intention to boycott the inauguration of the Salon de l’agriculture by President Emmanuel Macron on Saturday, February 21st. The union's secretary general, François Walraet, advised Macron against approaching their stand, warning of a potentially "rude" reception. While the CR is not planning an organized protest, individual farmers may express their anger peacefully, emphasizing that the salon is for farmers, not politicians. The CR's president, Bertrand Venteau, stated they do not wish to be present at the traditional breakfast with the president. The union seeks protection for French agriculture against unfair global competition and calls for action on the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP). The Confédération paysanne, another agricultural union, had previously announced a boycott due to unmet demands regarding cattle disease and farmer income protection.
