Samsung to exit Chinese mainland home appliance market amid weak profitability 07.05.2026

Samsung Electronics announced on Wednesday its decision to discontinue the sale of home appliance products in the Chinese mainland due to declining profitability and rapidly evolving market conditions. This strategic withdrawal, affecting items such as air conditioners, refrigerators, washing machines, and vacuum cleaners, will take place after a thorough review of the market. The company has emphasized that its smartphone sales operations will continue uninterrupted. Samsung also affirmed its commitment to providing ongoing after-sales support, adhering to all Chinese consumer protection laws and warranty regulations. While exiting the home appliance sector, Samsung will sustain its presence in China through operations in mobile devices, semiconductors, and medical equipment, notably at its semiconductor facilities in Xi'an and Suzhou. The decision follows a significant operating loss of $145 million in 2025 for its visual display and digital appliance divisions, alongside a 44% year-on-year decrease in net profit for its China sales unit.
