SAP bets $1.16B on 18-month-old German AI lab and says yes to NemoClaw 05.05.2026

SAP announced the acquisition of German AI startup Prior Labs, founded 18 months ago by Frank Hutter, Noah Hollmann, and Sauraj Gambhir, and plans to invest €1 billion ($1.16 billion) over four years to transform it into an AI lab specializing in structured data for enterprise applications. This strategic move aims to accelerate AI integration into SAP's software for accounting, HR, and procurement, countering the slow enterprise AI adoption noted by industry leaders. While SAP blocks unauthorized AI agents like OpenClaw through its API policy, it endorses Nvidia's NemoClaw via its Joule platform. Prior Labs' TabPFN models, downloaded over three million times, will remain open source as the lab operates independently to drive research and productization. The deal, termed one of Germany's largest venture outcomes, involves an "almost all cash" payout with over half a billion dollars upfront, as SAP's stock fluctuates amid the 2026 "SaaSpocalypse."
