Schattenflotte im VisierBriten verabschieden großes Sanktionspaket gegen Russland 24.02.2026

On the fourth anniversary of Russia's invasion of Ukraine, the British government has enacted its largest sanctions package since the early stages of the conflict, aiming to disrupt the financing of President Vladimir Putin's war. Prime Minister Keir Starmer affirmed the UK's unwavering support for Ukraine, highlighting its "incredible resilience." The new measures target the pipeline giant PJSC Transneft, 175 companies, and 48 oil tankers belonging to Russia's "shadow fleet," which is used to circumvent Western sanctions. Additionally, the sanctions will impact companies supplying drone components, as well as banks and firms in the nuclear energy and gas sectors. This action comes as reports indicate Russia is experiencing significant troop losses, with over 1.26 million soldiers lost according to Ukrainian military estimates, and struggling to recruit sufficient replacements despite financial incentives.
