Schüler kollabierte während Ramadan in der Schule: Lehrer warnen vor gesundheitlichen Risiken 24.02.2026

An increasing number of students in Vienna are participating in Ramadan fasting, leading to concerns among teachers about potential health risks. A recent incident where a student collapsed in a Vienna middle school gymnasium due to fasting has drawn significant attention. School officials report that children are often tired, irritable, and unfocused during class, particularly during physical education. Some students appear to be engaging in a competition to see who can fast the longest, even refusing offered water. While approximately 40 percent of students in Vienna's primary and secondary schools are Muslim, children under 14 are generally exempt from fasting, and experts advise against it for this age group. Despite teacher concerns, the Vienna education directorate maintains that schools are equipped to handle the fasting period and will take necessary health measures.
