Schwere Unwetter in Nachbarland: Vielerorts weiter Alarmstufe rot – Lage dauert „möglicherweise noch länger“ 22.02.2026

Severe weather continues to batter France, with red flood warnings in effect for multiple departments, including Loire-Atlantique, Maine-et-Loire, and Charente-Maritime. The Loire River's water levels remain critical in Nantes and Mauves-sur-Loire, with an average level of 5.80 meters expected on February 23rd. Over 1,600 people have been evacuated from affected areas, with some communities facing flooding not seen in 27 years. The Charente River in Saintes reached 6.55 meters, one of the worst floods in decades, though a historical record from 1982 remains unbroken. While a gradual calming is anticipated, saturated ground means even light rainfall will keep water levels elevated. The nation has experienced its longest period of consecutive rainfall since 1959, with storm "Pedro" bringing high winds and heavy rain to the Atlantic coast.
